  I assume everything electronic is now "disposable" when I buy it. If I can't fix it...it's gone. ESPECIALLY vcr and dvd players.

  I try to buy things to last a looong time. We saved up for awhile to buy the camera and it has worked great for us so far. It sucks so bad now that we don't have it and it seems like our fault that it's gone.
  
  On another note...VCR? We only have one DVD player and that's currently going out the door since I built a HTPC. Blu-ray and HD-DVD are here, but that will be just integrated into the HTPC in the future.
  
  Before I was thinking about getting video from my childhood of VCRs. Now I'm already thinking about removing our family's videos from the DVDs. I think I'm just going to stick with redundant digital files from now on.

  Hey, I'm from the generation that went "Wooo..." when they intoduced the 8 track tape...cut me some slack! I like my VCR...it's comfy like a well worn pair of jeans.

  Mack Camera Experience Is A Disaster

  Below is my camera I sent to Mack Camera for repair it will be going on two months Date Entered: 10/30/07 and the camera has not been looked at. I called numerous times talk to a Manager Sandra she promised me that the camera will be repaired three weeks ago and sent back to me now she will not respond to my emails or phone calls. I use this camera has my main camera for work I am a Press Photographer and I have begged Mack to please please repair my camera and send it back. I will keep everyone posted and see if I do receive my camera back repaired one thing good the major newspaper I work for wants to do a feature story on Mack I said lets see and wait. Below is a copy of the email from Mack I omitted the serial number and work order number for obvious reasons. This experience has been a disaster for me and my family

  I would highly NOT recommend getting the warranty from them. Essentially it seems they just hold onto the camera, do not fix it, and then wait for you to beg to get it back. Biggest scam around. Is there anyone that has actually gotten a camera fixed from them?

  I received my camera back today. I sent the below email to the owner of Mack camera it read
  
  "Dear Mel,
  
  Could you please help me. I have sent in the below camera for repairs on 10/30/07 your manager has promised me that the camera would be repaired and sent back to me three weeks ago I called in numerous times now no one is responding I work for major newspapers and use this camera as my primary camera for my bread and butter and now it is affecting my work and I can not afford another camera could you please help me Mel I have no one else to turn to. Thank you for your time and have a great day."
  
  It took over two months before I receievd this camera back from 10/30/07 to 12/19/07 the owner's email is mkevoe@bellatlantic.net his name is Mel Kevoe. The people at Mack were very rude and un helpfull this was a painfull experence and I will never use Mack Camera Reepair Service again and I will send a letter to B&H Photo in New York and tell them to stop selling Mack Camera warranty service. If I need repair I will contact Canon direct. It is sad when to pay good money and have service like this is a dissrace.   Isn't it amazing how many camera stores sell Mack warranties when the internet is littered with stories such as these. I just purchased a D300 from 42nd St Photo and the salesman virtually forced a Mack warranty down my throat. I live in New Zealand which isn't covered by the Nikon 12mth USA warranty so naturally I was interested in at least some kind of warranty. I normally do some online research before purchasing such things and in hindsight I was corralled into it somewhat.
  
  I see Adorama (whom I have a lot of respect for, compared with 42nd St Photo) also sell Mack warranties. You would think they would distance themselves from dodgy scams like this. Mind you Felix got his camera back in the end I suppose...
  
  42nd St Photo charged me US$199 for a 3 year Mack warranty and now having read about them online I would too afraid to send it off to them if it malfunctions. I just prey I've got a good D300 that doesn't need repair!

  Our contracts are not scams. Yes, some people have bad experiences, but for every one bad experience there are hundreds of good experiences. The only reason you read bad reviews and trash talk about our company is because the average person does not write about a positive experience.
  
  We have always been committed to being a service contract company that stands by their contract and we are not out there to get all the money from our customers. We give estimates when deserved, repair what needs to be repaired, replace & reimburse as needed and so on...
  
  Companies like Adorama continue to sell our contracts because they know that for each bad experience are hundreds of positive ones. Unfortunately not every single customer will be happy with their products.
  
  I apologize to whoever has had a bad experience in the past, or who ever had a long turn around, or estimate, etc... but our contracts clearly state with and is not covered.
