After bringing up Media Portal a few days ago I navigated to a video folder using the streamzap remote.  This remote wasn't fancy, but basically I just only needed and wanted a pause button for when the kids get a bit loud or something else is going on.  I tried to navigate down to the video I wanted to play and the remote seemed to get stuck.  No button would do anything.  I looked at the receiver and the red LED was blinking each time I hit a button but nothing happened.  I thought that maybe the computer got stuck.  I picked up the mouse...no problems there.  After trying to troubleshoot the problem by reinstalling software, drivers, etc I started to give up.

Jackie then asked, "Have you tried putting in new batteries into the thing?"

Well no.  I swapped some from the other remote and presto, everything was working fine again.  Doh!
