The new windows live writer is pretty sweet. Gone is the hassle of dealing with loading a webpage, logging in and screwing with the WYSIWYG editor that might not work for your browser, or whatever. It also allows you to easily insert and edit images, and even maps (I think I might use that to annoyingly show where I am when I post :)
Here's the steps to get it working with your MNP blog:
Step 1 - Download the software
Fairly simple. Go to http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/ and click onthe "Download Writer" link. Go through the install. I opted to not install the toolbar. Do what you wish, don't matter.
Step 2 - Setup LiveWriter with MNP Blogs
Since you're not using Window's live stuff, select the second option "Another weblog software". Hit next.
Here you'll enter you blog information. Provide the URL to your blog (ie. http://blogs.meetandplay.com/<firstinitial_lastname>/ replace the <firstinitial_lastname> with your actual name). Also enter your username and password that I've given to you already. Hit next.
Now, from the drop down list select: "Custom (Metaweblog API)".
Enter http://blogs.meetandplay.com/<firstinitial_lastname>/services/MetaBlogAPI.aspx in the "Remote posting URL for your weblog" textbox making sure to replace the <firstinitial_lastname> again with your actual name.
The next step will show after a successful completion of the other steps. Click on finish.
Step 3 - Setting up ability to add images and maps
The coolest functionality which I am loving sooo much so far is the ability to add in images. The subtext project is working on expanding it's MetaBlogAPI functionality, but for now we can use FTP to get our images online. Lets go through what you need to do to get that going:
First: Contact me. I'll need to give you the username and password information for the FTP.
Within LiveWriter click on Weblog in the top menu. Then select "Edit Weblog Settings".
Click next as we've already entered the correct information here. You should now be at the image publishing prompt. Select "Upload images to an FTP server".
Now enter "meetandplay.com" into the "FTP Hostname" box and "http://blogs.meetandplay.com/Posted/" into the "URL of image publishing folder". You'll also need to enter the username and password that I've given you. Now hit next until you get to finish and then click finish. You're done! Inserting images and maps is super easy! WOOT!
